Fort Myers. FL onboard "Crown Royal" a Beneteau Oceais 510
ASA Certified Instructor, USCG Master Captains Room for (6) Students
Plan is to have (2) students and (1) instructor on watch at all times ( if 2 instructors ) Students will be have (2) 4 hrs watches and (2) 8 hrs off periods per each 24 hour day
Voyage should take 4-6 Days weather permitting
Here is a sample of a schedule from one of the previous classes
Arrive Friday: arrive at Crown Royal (meet and greet) Saturday: Shore training and boat inspection Sunday: Depart mid day after final weather breifing and sail planning /training (weather permiting) week days : Training continuous 72 hours offshore with optional stop at Key West, FL or other location Depart Sunday: Leave Fort Myers for home
The cost of this Basic Voyage is $2499 per person for the knowledge and experience of an offshore sailing trip (prerequisite ASA 104 or above or equivalent knowledge and experience).

This will be a SAILING exercise onboard "Crown Royal" with actual life experiences focusing on safety in all conditions. We will be teaching a list of many valuable Skills and techniques as outlined in the ASA Certification program.
You also have the option to be ASA certified for any or all of the below listed classes, they are listed below with costs & prerequisite.

Here are a few of the amenities you may find aboard "Crown Royal". There are many high tech systems aboard, AIS, SSB single side band Ham radio, satellite phone, Spot "X", Epirb, and our position posted on Ship track. Chart plotter with many navigation, routing, charting and predict wind programs. We will also have meterologist Chis Parker for weather advising along our route.
All food aboard will be included (please make note of any special diet requirements). We will be posting to our Blog and FaceBook pages.

Sonset Sailing School, preparing you for your dreams and adventures! Located in the summer vacation resort village of Port Sanilac, we can certify you and prepare you for your next sailing adventure. Capt’n John Diel has over 40 years of sailing experience and almost 100,000 miles of sailing logged. He has sailed and trained many for family adventures and for long distance blue water passage making. He is a “Salty Dog,” a title given by ARC to those who have sailed many miles and ocean passages. He has sailed over 35,000 miles of Atlantic offshore passages mainly as Captain and Instructor.
We teach basic sailing classes in Port Sanilac and advanced preparation for cruising during summer months than advanced coastal cruising, and offshore passages making around the world. We have a Beneteau Oceanis 510 that will be moving around the Atlantic and will have many opportunities to sail with Capt’n John Diel as he moves many other yachts around the world. Get your name on the call list when offshore or advanced coastal opportunities are available.

ASA Sailing Certification Courses Offered
ASA 101, Basic Keelboat SailingLearn to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.
ASA 103, Basic Coastal CruisingLearn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered 25'-35' keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather, safety and seamanship.
ASA 104, Bareboat CruisingLearn how to sail a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered 30'-45' sailboat during a multi-day cruise upon inland/coastal waters in moderate/heavy winds and sea conditions. Learn about provisioning, boat systems, auxiliary engines, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation, anchoring / mooring, docking, emergency operations, weather, and more.
ASA 106, Advanced Coastal CruisingLearn to safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel about 30 to 50 feet in length in coastal and inland waters, in any conditions.
ASA 108, Offshore PassagemakingLearn to skipper a sailing vessel on extended offshore passages requiring celestial navigation. Knowledge of long-term passage planning, offshore vessel selection, sail repair, offshore first aid, watch-keeping, emergency procedures, abandon ship protocols, safety and seamanship.
