CARIB1500 EQUIPMENT

The Caribbean 1500 Rally is the largest and longest-running offshore cruising event in The Americas. We're celebrating our 20th year! It's a celebration of the loyalty and dedication of our participants, our sponsors, and our hard-working staff. Join Us! You'll discover the adventure, camaraderie, and competition that will bring you back year after year to make new friendships and renew old ones. Over 1300 boats with 5000 ralliers aboard have met the challenge of the Caribbean 1500 and its companion events during our 20 year history. That's more than two million rally miles! Tens of thousands of armchair sailors from over 50 countries come to the web site each year to watch the satellite-tracked event in progress. The diverse fleet that will complete the 6-13 day passage in this year's rally will include ralliers from all over the United States and Canada, along with a boat or two from Europe, South America, or Australia. Crews come in all shapes and sizes --- from double-handing couples to families with children to serious and not-so-serious racing contingents. There will be new boats and old boats, racing sleds and full-keeled cruisers, monohulls and catamarans. You will meet veteran ralliers, world cruisers, respected racers, and first-time passage-makers --- all gathering for the adventure, camaraderie, and competition of the Caribbean 1500. We have just arrived in Annapolis and have finished sailing the eastern Caribbean over the last 3 years. We left Hampton for the Caribbean in the 2006 1500 and sailed up and down the island chains 3 times. We have loged over 10,000 nm. After doing the "thorny path" in reverse, we recommend the 1500 to everyone as THE WAY to go south. Bob and Linda Masterson, Villomee Return Rally To Sail from the BVI to Bermuda (Or Direct to the US) A great way to come home from the Caribbean! We would love to have you join us for the Atlantic Cup, leaving Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola. It is great fun to catch up with the friends you made in the 1500 last fall. This will be a particularly exciting event as it will be the first time we leave from Nanny Cay Marina. You will love the facilities … for the boat (docks, chandlery, comprehensive marine services) and yourself (pool, restaurants, and other amentities). Over the years, we have found it best to split the return trip into two legs. Two shorter weather windows seem to be more frequent than one long one at that time of the year. So, we have an organized rally, complete with radio call schedules, transponders, social events, and awards, between Tortola and Bermuda. And then, we wait for the next weather window to leave for the second leg. At that point, smaller groups of boats head off for different destinations and informally continue the radio call-ins as they go. While it is not an “official route,” we we will also have an Atlantic Cup contingent that sails directly from Tortola to the East Coast without the stop in Bermuda. People who choose that route will participant in all of the Nanny Cay events and carry a transponder on board as they converse with the rest of the fleet daily at the designated SSB chat hours. The event is open to all sailors, so feel free to invite your new cruising friends to join us as well. The finish and awards party will be at the St George's Dinghy and Sports Club before the ralliers sail on to New England, Europe, or the Mid-Atlantic. Boats can join ARC Europe leaving from the same club. "We do the Atlantic Cup each year for three reasons ... Security, safety, conviviality. It's a lot shorter hop doing 4 days up to Bermuda, then 4 days over to the States instead of the 7-10 day passage. The need for a shorter weather window adds a great deal of mental assurance to the trip as opposed to the passage straight back."
